All Things Permitted. Happy Birthday, USMC.

My friend and contractor, Mat, texted me today with the most wonderful photo – our construction permits in his hand! Let the insane adventures in 282-year-old house remodeling begin! Here’s hoping that, at the end of this remodel, Mat is still my friend. I tortured him today with email after email about Dutch doors. I think a Dutch door is perfect for this house. What do you think?

Incidentally, today being November 10th and all…

Back on November 10, 1775 (when Silver Spring Farm was 45 years old) at a place in Philadelphia, PA called Tun’s Tavern, the United States Marine Corps was founded.  I would like to wish every Marine on this earth, yound and old, a HAPPY 237th MARINE CORPS BIRTHDAY! Today I think happy thoughts about my dad who celebrated every year with the Marine Corps League.  And join me in welcoming my youngest son, Eoin, to the legion of heroes – he’s a USMC poolee counting down the days to boot camp!  I am the proudest Marine daughter and mother on the planet.

Semper fidelis, guys.  Semper fidelis.

Semper Fidelis! I read a small spot from you in Mother Earth News and went to check you out. The birthday message is the first thing I saw! I am the wife a an active duty Marine stationed approximately 5 miles from hell in Yuma, AZ! I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciated seeing the USMC Birthday shout out!

    • You are most welcome. Those words, semper fidelis, mean more to my family than you can imagine. My youngest heads down to stand upon the yellow footprints at Parris island in… 208 days. But who’s counting?
